The Garden Route is synonymous with outdoor activities, in particular nature walks and hiking. While most guests to the region automatically plan for a forest hike in one of the famed Outeniqua, Knysna or Titstikamma Forests, few first time visitors realize that there are some amazing coastal trails available.


Stretching along the coastal plain south of the formidable Outeniqua and Titsikamma mountain ranges and lapped by the waves of the Indian Ocean, these coastal walks open onto a vista of unspoilt coastline extending along a east west axis from Mossel Bay to Storms River.

St Blaise Trail

Extending between Cape St Blaise and Dana Bay, this cliff top trail gives dramatic views of the rocky coastline with a birds eye view of some secluded sandy bays and the possibility of viewing marine mammals below.

Galjoen Trail

A beach walk betwen Myoli Beach and Wildside, this trail traverses the Goukamma Nature Reserve and follows the base of the towering fossil dune cliffs while also spanning shelves of tidal pools and numerous Strandlooper middens with a series of sandy bays interspered by eroding headlands.

Robberg Trail

A challenging cliff top and rocky path around the Robberg Peninsula, this trail ranks as one of the best coastal hikes in the Garden Route and boasts birds eye views of a Cape Fur Seal colony and other marine mammals.

In late winter to early summer there is also a good chance of some excelent land based sightings of Great White Sharks from the trail.
