Garden Route Trail has designed a series of hiking getaways with a mix of short to medium walks blended with comfortable accommodation and wilderness cuisine. These break aways are crafted to provide excellent hiking and detailed nature awareness to trigger your parasympathetic nervous system for overall relaxation and a digital detox.
Swartberg Bliss
Nestled on the southern slopes of the Swartberg Mountain Range, the Matjiesrivier getaway is a 2 night break away. Located north of Calizdorp, we stay in a mix of Karoid, succulent Karoo and Fynbos habitation and hike a combination of mountains, contours and hidden valleys. Midday can either be spent chilling next to a river or snoozing in a shaded valley.
Grootvaderbos
A favorite destination, the Grootvaderbos Nature Reserve is ideal for mountain peak sun downers in the Fynbos and reflective day walks in mature indigenous forests as well as reflecting on our connection to nature beneath the tallest trees in South Africa.
The Outeniqua Peaks
If you are looking for easily accessible mountain hikes with varied landscapes, the Outeniqua Mountains north of George is the perfect destination. The outing can be crafted according to your hiking requirements from short steep ascents to full day routes through forest and fynbos.
Overberg and Whale Coast
The Cape Fold mountains between Betty's Bay and Hermanus contain an incledible network of hking trails for all grades of hiking. Whether you want a demanding mountain hike or a relaxed wine taisting saunter, the Kogelberg and Fernfloof reserves are a perfect multi day hiking tour destination.
Arid Karoo
Based in the historic town of Graaff Reinet, We combine varied distance trails that distill the essence of this semi desert region of South Africa. For the adventure seekers, a full day hike to ascend the Nardou Peak (2429m) can be included in the itinerary.
Baviaans Kloof
The Baviaans Kloof has plenty to offer in terms of hiking. Based at Cedar Falls, we will explore the Cedar Fall canyon (which includes some swimming) and hike to crystal clear rock pools and enjoy sun downers on mountain tops.
