Enter the green calm of the Knysna Forest and you will want to return.

 

Excellent Forest Hiking

The Garden Route has a superb network of trails, particularly forest trails. Between George in the west and Blue Lillies Bush in the east, a network of forest trails exist with a range of distances available.

 

For medium distance trails, the Groeneweide, Woodcutter 9Km and Perdekop trails are ideal.

Elephant Trail

A superb example of mature Yellowwood climax canopy forest with 7km, 9km and 13km loops.

The Blombos Trail is a magnifiscent dune fynbos trail between Sedgefield and Wildside.

Outeniqua Trail Stage

The Outeniqua is South Africa's oldest and longest trail, spanning 108km from it's mountanous start at Bergplaas to the coastal forest finishing at Harkerville.

Some of the stages are ideal as a one day hike, though once you have done one stage you will want to carry on for a few more days.

A popular stage to do is the section between the Platbos Hut to Jubilee Creek, a 15km hike with a refreshing river crossing and plenty dung samples of the mysterious Forest Elephants.

Park Entrance Fee : R130.00/p for a permit to be on the trail.
