Garden Route Coastal Trail

Launched in May 2004, the Garden Route Coastal Trail is our flagship trail and was one of the original slackpacking trails in South Africa. Starting in Wilderness and finishing in Brenton On Sea, the itinerary is one of the most diverse in the country and includes forest, dune fynbos, coastal thicket, and beach stages.

 

As a fully guided and catered 5 day coastal trail, it traverses two nature reserves and includes two canoe stages and is an ideal way for multi generational family and friendship groups to explore the Garden Route and escape the crowds. Read More

Dune Fields Trail

Our newest trail itinerary, the Dunefields Trail is a four day trail between Woody Cape and Kenton on Sea. The hike traverses the rich diversity of the Eastern Cape, beginning in pristine dune forest through to remote beaches flanked by dense coastal thicket. Blend this with hiking through sections of the largest open dune field in South Africa, and you have the makings of an incredible multi day trail.

Leopard Trail

The Epitome of a wilderness trail, The Leopard Trail is a 4 day slackpacking trail through the stark wilderness of the western section of the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve.

Following a loop through valleys and over a series of hills and saddles, it is a strenuous trail with second and third days making up two long stages.

If you are sure footed, love night skies and wide open spaces without any views of civilization, then this trail is for you.

Karoo Trail

 

Karoo Stone Folk Trail

The trail is a fully guided, all-inclusive, 4 night , 3 day slackpacking trail in the Karoo between Nieu Bethesda and Kompasberg. A loop route, hikers overnight in farm stays. Hiking with only daypack, guests luggage is transported to each overnight venue.

The hiking route traverses private farms a follows Jeep tracks, to sheep tracks and across wide open grassland.

 

The Karoo is a spectacular landscape of wide open spaces, incredible geological landscapes and stark silence. Considered a semi-desert, the Karoo is an ideal location to take a break from urban pressures, to relax and revitalize your entire being. Millennia of evolution has produced a remarkable ecosystem through a geological time frame of 400 million years.

Hiking through this vast landscape invokes a sense of place within and allows an unimpeded interaction with the remarkable fauna and flora of the region.

Inqua Trail

 

Inqua Trail

Launched in December 2020, the Inqua Trail is an exquisite two or three day coastal trail. Traversing a series of private properties declared as a Protected Areas, the trail meanders along the shoreline and cliffs between the the Robberg Nature Reserve and the Harkerville section of the Garden Route National Park.

 

Established to create a wildlife corridor between the two nature reserves, the Robberg Coastal Corridor is unique in the bouquet of coastal slackpacking trails in South Africa in that it's primary function is for conservation, with the Inqua trail serving as a means of raising funds for the conservation efforts.

Tsitsikamma Trail

 

Tsitsikamma Trail

The Tsitsikamma Trail is a versatile hiking trail with a maximum duration of 6 days and the option of either a traditional backpacking style hike or the easier option of slackpacking.

 

The trail heads east from the coastal village of Nature’s Valley to the Storm’s River bridge, with 5 overnight huts along the route.
With a total length of 59km, the trail leaves the coast and heads north east into the Tsitsikamma mountain range, passing through coastal thicket, fynbos, pristine afro-montane forest, and pine plantations with some spectacular river crossings and scenic waterfalls along the way.

 

For groups and company outings wanting a guided hike, Garden Route Trail offers a guiding and catering service as a slackpacking option for the full duration or shorter itineraries on the trail.

Outeniqua trail

As South Africa's oldest formal trail, the Outeniqua Trail is legend for it's mountain and forest terrain. Home to the remaining forest elephant, we regularly find dung along the trail. Garden Route Trail offers logistics, guiding and catering on sections of the trail. All accommodation is in the trails overnight huts.
